Two large rectangular displays, with cover that pulls up, off, and away. When we used these, we had
the cover off, and the open shelves facing us standing behind the table - to avoid shoplifting. At the end of each night, we put the cover back on. These stand about 15 1/4" tall X 13" wide X 4" deep at the deepest point. 5 shelves + top. Clear acrylic. $70.00 each + UPS shipping. C & D
I WANT IT BACK!So I go to a doctor on May 29, 2013. I pay my $35.00 co-pay at the time of my visit.
June 19, 2013 I receive the Explanation of Benefits from my insurance company. (In my
experience, the provider receives this information several days before I do.) I am only allowed
4 doctor visits per year. After that, the cost is applied to my deductible and I have to pay the full amount. Since I had already reached my deductible ($1,000.00), my share was 20% of the visit.

So I wait for the doctor's office to return the difference to me. And I wait. I've been in this position before. The doctor wants the money up front; but just try to get any back from them.
So I called the office today to see what the hold up was. I was told it would take them 6 to 8
WEEKS to send me a check!

Interesting. We are charged an arm and a leg for medical service. (Our insurance charges 2 arms
and legs for coverage. Which gets worse and more expensive by the year.) Yet, the accounting
department can't process a small check in less than 1 1/2 months. The longer they hang onto my
money, the more interest they make. It's like Vegas, with the odds stacked in the house's favor.Grandma (Sheila)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05265147728640957102noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-502429434520421754.post-56738251685743209242013-06-27T15:06:00.002-07:002013-06-27T15:06:27.341-07:00TURNED PERFUME BOTTLES1.Deep blue turned acrylic perfume in 1" scale.

Theme luncheon gift. Monet's Garden in a painted tin. This is the exterior lid of the tin. (Because of the
camera, "Monet" is a mirror image.) Inside the lid is Monet's house done in wood with landscaping around the building. In the bottom of the tin is the garden and lily pond with bridge. Lots of detail.
Very beautiful. There is also ribbon edging with a tiny frame and picture. Made by Sue Herber.
$70.00 + $3.00 postage.
The lid lifts up, folds back, and exposes an upholstered seat in white brocade and a drawer that opens. I purchased this years ago, and it has been in a glass curio. Since I no longer do 1" scale, I am parting
with it. $65.00 + $3.25 postage (in US). If interested, e-mail sheila.jacobson@gmail.com
It is 1" scale, and stands 2 3/8" tall, and has the Bespaq sticker underneath. A lovely piece.

And I have 1 cat made by Hermania Anslinger, an IGMA Fellow. Hermania died a few years ago, at
the age of (I believe) 99. She was still making miniatures in her 80's. Hermania carved the item in wood, made a mold, and then poured in porcelain. I have a darling black/white cat ...
sleeping away. This piece has so much texture that it doesn't look like porcelain; even though I know
that is what Hermania worked in.
$49.00 + $3.00 postage (in US). E-mail me if interested.
Hermania said she learned to carve as a child. Her mother was afraid she would injure herself; so she
wrapped all Hermania's fingers in tape. So, I'm going to try this. If you are interested in any of the items in this post, they are $24.50 each, plus $2.50 postage (in the US). Just e-mail me: sheila.jacobson@gmail.com for more information.
These are all 1" scale vases, and turned on a miniature lathe by Harv Jacobson, from acrylic.
I will be adding other types of turnings in the coming days.

So we only had 14 Trick or Treaters last night. This is the lowest number we have ever had in this house. (31 years) Which led me to remember Halloween growing up.

Homes crammed next to each other (although bigger yards than now), one after another make for a
lot of families with kids. Growing up, my 2 older brothers and I would take off with large grocery bags as soon as it got dark and RUN (seriously run) house to house. I remember it was hard for me to keep
up. They were constantly yelling at me to hurry up, since they couldn't leave me. This probably started when I was 6; and my brothers were 8 and 10. And it continued until I
was deemed old enough to go by myself, or to be stuck taking my younger brother. We had those stiff plastic masks held on with a thin elastic band, that were sweaty inside 5 seconds after putting them on, and had tiny eye holes. So you're sweating, running, and you can't see where you're going. And you're trying to hang on to a paper sack that's getting heavier by the minute.

We hit as many houses as we could before dinner; and returned home to eat and dump out our bags. Anything we didn't want or that was unwrapped, we donated to the bowl by the front door to be given out again. After dinner, we took off again until we had hit every house in the large neighborhood. Blocks and blocks of houses. When we would get to a front door, there would most likely be 15 other kids there and more coming up the sidewalk. I know that when I was put on front door duty it was difficult to close the front door because just as you finished handing out candy to one group, there was another bunch. Typically, we had over 300 Trick or Treaters every Halloween. The light was turned off when we ran out of candy, or it was decided it was late enough.

Certainly different from today's Halloween. I can't imagine letting my small children go out by themselves; and for hours at a time. Now it's politically incorrect to even call the holiday by its
name. It has become the Fall Festival or some other name; and the kids aren't even allowed to wear
costumes to school anymore.

I predict in 10 years (or less) the door-to-door Trick or Treating will be no more.Grandma (Sheila)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05265147728640957102noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-502429434520421754.post-82895105778511361422012-10-03T18:58:00.002-07:002012-10-03T19:22:36.807-07:00PAINThe pain is so bad today, I just want to cry. But I'm too lazy, or my back hurts too much to stand
at the stove for 15 minutes to cook them.
(Never install ceramic tile on your kitchen floor. It's just like standing on cement - very hard on
your back.)
So, today I decided to experiment. Three eggs, salt & pepper, and a little milk whipped with a fork.
Paper towel over the top. Put in the
microwave for 2 minutes. Lovely!
And easy to eat when your face/teeth hurt with Trigeminal Neuralgia.
TERRIBLE! It could have been
an interesting show, except for 2 things.

1) The sound quality was so poor it was unbelievable.
If you wrapped a muffler around your head three times, and then tried to listen it would be about the
same as this show. This made the female lead very difficult to understand when she wasn't yelling.
We kept turning up the volume; but it didn't help. That just made it loud and muffled.

Harv and I kept looking at each other.
"Am I going deaf?"
"No, the sound is really bad."

2) The thick accent and staccato delivery of the male lead made him IMPOSSIBLE to understand
90% of the time.

Obviously, this made for a frustrating viewing experience. The only reason we watched for the
whole episode was because there was absolutely nothing else on to watch. (I'm so happy I pay
through the nose every month to my cable service, only to have nothing worth watching!)
A complete waste of 60 minutes of my time. Next week we'll turn off the TV, and read a book.
I predict a quick demise for this series.Grandma (Sheila)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05265147728640957102noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-502429434520421754.post-51782482326758435902012-09-21T15:29:00.000-07:002012-09-21T15:29:40.740-07:00THERE'S GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWSThe good news is that I have had very few migraines in the last 2 months.
Having a hard time sleeping these days. I'm used to sleeping on my side; and right now spine
issues are giving me pain in both upper arms. So I lay on one side until the pain wakes me. Then
I switch to the other side until pain wakes me. Then I lay on my back. Hmmm, that won't work.
Then I look at the ceiling. Too tired to get up; but can't sleep. So then I start obsessing about
things because everything looks worse in the dark of night. I completely understand.

We used to have these big hairy spiders in our basement. I'd go down there to do something, and
out of the corner of my eye I'd see something scuttle really fast across the floor. Now the thing with
scuttling is that you have first the startle, and then the screaming meemies as you realize what it was.
HATE spiders! And these suckers were HUGE! As in - you could saddle and ride them.

The worst was when Cal and family (including babies) visited with a baby monitor. Apparently,
baby monitors emit a frequency that scares the beejeezes out of bugs in the walls and brings them all
out in the open. When I had seen the sixth big hairy spider in one day, that was it. Since then we
have sprayed every 3 months for bugs. Now it is rare to even see a tiny spider or earwig in the house; and they are always dead ones. These bugs cross the threshold where it is sprayed, go a couple of
inches and die. HA, take that, Bug!Grandma (Sheila)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05265147728640957102noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-502429434520421754.post-20901669097453764152012-08-07T15:07:00.001-07:002012-08-07T15:07:33.463-07:00PACKING PEANUTSPacking peanuts are evil! Packing peanuts should be banned, if for no other reason than the irritation factor.
Grandma (Sheila)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05265147728640957102noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-502429434520421754.post-18787698329200614592012-08-06T14:34:00.001-07:002012-08-06T14:48:44.031-07:00GAVINOn a cheerier note, Grandson Gavin took his very LAST dose of anti-seizure medicine this morning.
He is now a healthy, happy boy.Grandma (Sheila)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05265147728640957102noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-502429434520421754.post-28947831371490000692012-08-06T14:31:00.000-07:002012-08-06T14:49:55.564-07:00MORTALITYAbout a year ago, one of my friends unexpectedly lost her husband to a heart attack. It was so out
of the blue with no warning; that it shocked us. Now, another friend has just found out that her
husband has lung cancer, Stage IV, inoperable.
This kind of news makes us think of our own mortality; that each day takes us a little closer to a
visit with the grim reaper. That's a rather unsettling thought.
I always felt that death was akin to childbirth in that no one can help you with it.
Your body and mind have to deal with it alone. Once committed, you can't change your
mind.Grandma (Sheila)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05265147728640957102noreply@blogger.com0
